Following on from an incredibly busy and successful year, the Blackwood boys are back with a brand new summer infused vibrant comeback. Into The Ark's new single, Underneath The Sun, released on their own label Blackwood Records in conjunction with the Kartel Music Group,, takes a slightly different musical turn to what we have previously heard but nonetheless an addictive one.
Underneath The Sun, co-written and produced by the voyager behind some of the most addictive indie bands out in the open at the moment, Rich Turvey. His roster includes 'Blossoms', 'Clean Cut Kid' and 'The Coral' to name just a few, and quite rightly, some of those characteristics flow really pleasingly through the track. The drum pattern in particular puts me in mind of The Coral's 'Miss Fortune' and sits nicely alongside the array of 70's infused guitar melodies.
Into The Ark never fail to pin down those crisp vocal personalities that boast through their music. Underneath The Sun optimistically takes us through the boys' personal on-the-road journey to a sun-kissed melody of carefully crafted vocal harmonies in a definite sunny-washed 70's Cali-Folk-Rock endeavour. The forefronted vocals in particular emphasise the uplifting song-writing. Taylor and Dane's vocal inflections forever cement soulfully together to create that resonating infectious rhythm that comes across both on record and just resonates around the room during a live set.
Being only their third release, first two singles 'My Ghost' And 'Brightest Creatures' produced by Declan Gaffney and Barry Gorey (Adele, U2) went down a treat and its looking like a playground of new music is going to surface, so I'd watch this space.
The Boys are heading off for their US debut alongside their friend and mentor Tom Jones in Spring/Summer 2018 and playing some upcoming UK dates in October:
