Stumbling across a musical gem is always exciting and so fulfilling, especially when you listen for the first time and you then have to listen again to hear it closer. Angelo De Augustine is my new favourite find!
Hailing from California, Angelo's music alludes passion and a very carefully curated craft. The gorgeous melodies and whispering vocals in Crazy, Stoned & Gone comes in the wake of new album Swim Inside The Moon. From the first listen, you can hear the effect that is wanted to be created and his recording technique is unique and soul binding. The ambience of his tracks are captured through an analogue reel-to-reel and a mic in his bathroom. In this particular song, the conscience behind the voice is adorned by the soft melodic guitars and that raw felt recording. It feels as though we're sat next to him as he records the track live there and then, amplifying the aura of the lyrics and verging falsetto strain.
The video is wonderfully crafted and drawn by Angelo himself and animated by Sufjan Stevens, who has Angelo on his label Asthmatic Kitty, and it flows perfectly as a visual aid with the song.
Swim Inside The Moon is Angelo's second album and Asthmatic Kitty debut to be released on August 18th. The album also includes beautifully written; 'Truely Gone'.
