Isle of Wight Review

Hi!

Guess who's back? Yep. Little ol' me. So I think I've just about recovered from the weekends antics from across the sea. All slept and rested and I even went to see Kings Of Leon again on Tuesday in Sheffield. I know, what a trooper.

Anyway I thought I'd give you a my own personal review of my experience of the Isle of Wight Festival.

So let me start with the headliners....

Biffy Clyro
The first headlines to start off the weekend with a bang through the stunningly hot weather and It's most likely the 4th time I've seen these Scottish beauties and the 2nd time at a festival. However, for me, they only seem to keep getting better and better as their music progresses, with some infectious tunes from their new album 'Opposites' getting the crowd going with this seamless set including 'Black Chandelier' and 'Biblical'. The crowd lit up when the band bolted onto the stage with some well known tunes such as 'Captain', 'Mountains' and 'Bubbles' along with some old favorites from their musical beginning with the likes of 'Just a Boy'. Some great classics from the fantastic album Puzzle made an exciting appearance putting everyone into pure singing mode with the likes of 'Folding Stars' and 'Machines' along with mosh pit making 'Who's Got Match'.
A polished band who never fail to disappoint as Simon Neil's sparkling blue eyes in captivate the audience through their explosive set.

Calvin Harris
Well, continuing the Scottish theme of headliners for the Friday as it seems, this man really knows how to get the crowd going. Absolutely blowing up the stage with his definitive list of well produced dance tunes, he really got the crowd going, to put it plainly, absolutely nuts. Owning the stage with his huge decks and captivating lighting really made this set something special. Indefinitely a set for all to enjoy who really fancy one big rave.

Red Hot Chili Peppers 
Possibly the most anticipated band of the weekend, including completely selling out the day tickets for Saturday. Bursting onto the stage with the corker of a crowd pleaser for any fan,'Can't Stop' got the whole audience positively boogieing and moving to the infectious beat that these polished artists enthused from the stage. It was certainly a greatest hit mash-up as they picked the best of the best from their fantastic 10 studio albums. Bassist Flea, bounded across the stage with his insainly catchy and famous bass riffs whilst front man Anthony Keidis kept everyone captivated and belting out popular tunes such as 'By The Way' 'Califronacation'  and encoring with 'Give it Away' all this combined with Chad Smith's infectious drum beats, funky bass riffs from Flea, Anthony Keidis' polished performance and the exciting multimedia made any 'Chili Peppers fan proud to be a part of this set and surely talked about for a long while.

Kings of Leon
From front man Caleb's gritty vocals to the range of variety held in this performance it was definitely an enjoyable one. Spanning across 6 albums of thought provoking music, these guys knew how to order their set. Although over the past year saw a possible split in the group they came back showing to everyone they have no intention of this. Kicking off with 'Supersoaker' from their most recent album Mechanical Bull, immediately got the festival singing, and this carried on as they began to go back to their excellent and catchy album Aha Shake Heart Break, with some old favorites such as 'The Bucket' 'Taper Jean Girl' and the explosive tune, 'Four Kicks',definitely took the dedicated fans into a blast from the past which took them even further with some well remembered rock and roll favourite  'Molly's Chambers'. And of course the well known 'Use Somebody' and an anticipated encore containing the classic 'Sex on Fire'.
These guys are definite crowd pleasers and had a truely diverse and interesting set.

A couple of others throughout the weekend the weekend...

Rudimental 
Well Rudimental sure knew how to put on a show to open the festival on Friday. Blasting out their fabulous well known tunes such as 'Waiting all Night' and 'Feel the love' getting the crowd ready for the explosive set from Calvin Harris later in the evening, everyone was loving these guys as they got everyone dancing and singing.

Ella Eyre 
Ella Eyre had her own set this year on the Sunday and absolutely owned the stage. After the success of Waiting all Night this lion haired Brit School graduate knew how to rock the stage with her stunning vocals and bouncing tunes. After winning BBC's Sound of 2014 she is definitely one to look out for this year!

The Specials
Another golden oldie came from the likes of Ska legends The Specials, playing some of their most iconic and memorable songs. Making it very hard for the audience not to skank away to the infectious beats of ' A Message to you Rudy', 'Ghost Town' and 'Too Much Too Young' definitely one of my favourties of the weekend.

The Pretty Wreckless
From Gossip Girl to Rock Princess, Taylor Momson was loving life on the stage, taring it up with her Blondie like persona definitely bought the festival to a stand still as they got the crowd pumping with their heavy riffs and catchy female vocals. No signs of little Cindy-Lou Who.
